URJ Camp Newman Phase 4
As part of Camp Newman’s continued effort to expand its year-round housing capacity, Phase IV introduced two new multi-unit cabin buildings—Cabins 5A and 5B—designed to accommodate the growing number of campers, staff, and retreat attendees. These three-story structures reflect the camp’s enduring commitment to community, functionality, and resilience.
Constructed with structural steel-reinforced wood framing, both cabins feature cantilevered decks and balconies, offering architectural interest and reinforcing the indoor-outdoor lifestyle that defines the Camp Newman experience. Together, the two buildings provide housing for up to 168 occupants, with units strategically arranged around shared circulation and gathering spaces.
A defining feature of this phase is the emphasis on community interaction. A 10,000-square-foot network of decks and balconies, including a central shared deck between the two cabins, serves as an extension of the living quarters—encouraging guests to step out of their rooms, connect with others, and engage in the surrounding natural landscape.
Cabin 5B was completed in May 2024, with Cabin 5A following in Spring 2025. These new additions further support Camp Newman’s mission of cultivating connection, reflection, and growth in a thoughtfully designed environment that welcomes all generations.
